What is a KEEPS Prepaid MasterCard?
The KEEPS Card is a prepaid MasterCard that offers a fast, easy, and safe way to receive your settlement award or government benefits. Funds are loaded automatically onto the card – there’s no waiting for checks to arrive in the mail or to clear at the bank, and no need for check cashing services.[back to top]

Is the KEEPS Card a credit card?
No. It’s a prepaid MasterCard. Unlike a credit card, funds must be loaded onto your KEEPS Card before you can use it, and any purchases you make will be deducted from your balance.[back to top]

SIGNING UP

Who can sign up for the KEEPS Card?
You must be a client of an attorney or representative who has partnered with us. You must also be a US resident at least 18 years old. We don’t require US citizenship or check your credit, and you do not have to have an existing bank account – to be eligible for a KEEPS Card, you only need to successfully pass identification verification. Why do you need my Social Security number?
We’re required to obtain a Social Security number by Federal Law (USA PATRIOT Act) to help prevent identity theft and/or other illegal use of the card.* If you don’t have a Social Security number, we may be able to use other government-issued identifying documents, like a foreign passport or Green Card.

*IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PROCEDURES FOR OPENING A NEW CARD ACCOUNT: To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens a Card Account. What this means for you: When you open a Card Account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. When will I receive my KEEPS Card?
After you have completed your enrollment with your attorney or representative and successfully passed identity verification, your personalized KEEPS Card will arrive in the mail at your home within 7-10 business days. If we are unable to successfully verify your identity at the time of enrollment, there will be a delay in delivery of your card until we can successfully complete identity verification. You can use your card to make purchases everywhere Debit MasterCard is accepted, to withdraw cash at over one million ATMs worldwide (surcharge-free at MoneyPass® ATMs!), to get cash back at participating retailers, and to pay bills online or by phone.[back to top]

Can I add funds to my KEEPS Card?

How do I check my transactions and balance?
The easiest way to track your transactions and balance is to sign up for free email or text alerts at mykeeps.com (standard text messaging rates from your wireless service provider may apply). You can also check your balance by visiting mykeeps.com or by calling (877) 984-1809.[back to top]

Can I use my card for ACH debits?
No. Your prepaid Card Account and associated direct deposit account number cannot be used for preauthorized direct debits from merchants or from utility or Internet service providers. If presented for payment, these preauthorized direct debits will be declined and your payment to the merchant or provider will not be processed.[back to top]

Is there a maximum balance?
The maximum amount you can have on your KEEPS Card is outlined in your Cardholder Agreement. There is no minimum balance.[back to top]

What fees will I be charged?
There’s no enrollment or activation fee, and you’ll never face overdraft fees or interest charges. All KEEPS Card fees are listed in your Cardholder Agreement, which was sent with your KEEEPS Card and can also be found when you login to mykeeps.com [back to top]

What happens if I return an item?
Like other MasterCard purchases, merchants can credit your return back onto your KEEPS Card.[back to top]

What if a purchase is declined?
The merchant will let you know if a transaction is declined. To help prevent this, you can track your balance at mykeeps.com and you can sign up for free email or text alerts (standard text messaging rates from your wireless service provider may apply).[back to top]

 Can I pay for gas "at the pump"?
No. Like most prepaid cards, you need to present your card to the cashier before pumping gas.[back to top]

What should I do if my KEEPS Card expires?
Your KEEPS Card expires 24 months after date it was ordered. The expiration date is printed on your card. If you have recurring payments or a balance when your card expires, a renewal card will be automatically sent to you at the address we currently have on file for you. How can I update my address?
Visit us on the web at mykeeps.com and follow the easy instructions to update your address or call (877) 984- 1809 and speak to a customer service representative. It’s important that you let us know about any address changes in case we need to send you important information about your account or mail you a new card.[back to top]

SAFETY AND SECURITY

What if my KEEPS Card is lost or stolen?
Call (877) 984-1809 right away. We’ll issue a replacement card with any available balance. If you report it immediately, you’ll be protected from unauthorized purchases by the MasterCard Zero Liability policy (conditions and exceptions apply – see your Cardholder Agreement). [back to top]

Is my money safe and secure?
Yes. Funds on your KEEPS Card are safer than cash and protected in several ways:

  • If your card is lost or stolen and you report it immediately, you’ll be protected from unauthorized purchases by the MasterCard Zero Liability policy (conditions and exceptions apply – see your Cardholder Agreement).
  • Deposits are FDIC-insured to at least $250,000 through The Bancorp Bank; Member FDIC.
  • To prevent unauthorized withdrawals, you must set up and use a four-digit PIN to withdraw cash from ATMs or get cash back at participating merchants.[back to top]
